Effective today, Ukrainians residing in the US on or before April 11, 2022 are eligible to apply for Temporary Protected Status. TPS allows eligible people to live and work in the US for 18 months. If interested, you must register with USCIS and apply for a work authorization to be able to work lawfully. Nothing is automatic!

Today we’re launching the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET), a special temporary residence pathway to welcome Ukrainians and their families to Canada: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2022/03/canada-launches-new-temporary-residence-pathway-to-welcome-those-fleeing-the-war-in-ukraine.html

With CUAET, Ukrainians and their family members can stay in Canada as temporary residents for up to 3 years. They will also be eligible for a free open work permit or study permit, which will allow them to work or study across Canada.

Ukrainians and their family who are already in Canada can also apply to extend their visitor status or work permit for up to 3 years or apply for a new work or study permit. We will waive the application fees.

Where can Ukrainians apply for visas?

Update from the Department of State 3/1/2022:

Non-immigrant visas, for example, visitor, student: can process wherever you are and can get an appointment (at a US Embassy/Consulate).

Immigrant visas, such as spouses, fiancees, children of US citizens: to be processed at the US Consulate in Frankfurt.

Adoption cases, diplomatic and official visas: Warsaw, Poland

The new public charge rule has been suspended for ALL USCIS offices for the duration of the COVID-19 crisis. A different decision also suspends the rule for consular processing.
