Galveston Police Department executes multi-location raids on illegal gaming operations
GALVESTON, TX (January 6, 2026) – The Galveston Police Department in coordination with several regional law enforcement partners, conducted a large-scale tactical operation today, January 6, 2026, targeting multiple businesses and residential properties suspected of facilitating illegal gambling and organized criminal activity.
Beginning in the early morning hours, GPD detectives and specialized units executed search and arrest warrants at several locations throughout the city. The operation is the culmination of a months-long investigation into unregulated "game rooms" and the associated financial networks that support them.
“Illegal gambling operations are often a magnet for secondary crimes, including money laundering and narcotics distribution. Today’s action demonstrates our commitment to maintaining the safety and integrity of our neighborhoods by dismantling these unauthorized operations.
Preliminary Findings:
• Locations: Warrants were served simultaneously at five commercial businesses and four private residences.
o Commercial sites: Three within 61st Street Plaza, 2215 61st
o Tongs Happy Buddha, 2827 61st Street
o A&M Grocery, 1228 39th Street
• Seizures: Officers have seized a significant number of illegal “eight-liner” gaming machines, an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, and electronic records related to the operation.
• Arrests: Several individuals have been taken into custody and are currently being processed. Charges are expected to include engaging in organized criminal activity and possession of gambling devices/equipment.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. To protect the integrity of the evidence and the safety of the officers involved, names of the individuals arrested are being withheld at this time.
