Several months ago a frantically crying man called me after being released from jail.
He had been pulled over and arrested by the Katy Police Department "for a traffic ticket." He was taken to an interrogation room by two "detectives," Mirandized and interrogated. The detectives immediately and falsely accused my client of violating a protective order. The detectives then accused my client of sexually assaulting his 2 year old daughter and his soon to be ex-wife. For 2.5 hours, the detectives manipulated his mind and overcame his will. The big angry male detective made loud noises, slammed the door and said if we don't believe you no one will. The motherly female detective played on my client's desire to have a relationship with his daughter at some point in his life, if he gets out of prison, which is a circumstance that would only occur if he confessed.
For 2.5 hours these detectives refused to believe his denial of wrongdoing. Yet, when he finally decided to confess to make things easier on his soon to be ex wife and daughter and escape the mental torture of this interrogation, the detectives told him what to write in his confession even as he said his confession is not true, a detail they left out of the report.
These Katy Police Department detectives did not care at all about the truth. They did not care at all about conducting an honest investigation. They did not care at all about the mother's character for truthfulness, motives or whether law enforcement had previously determined she is not a credible person.
Luckily, a prosecutor did, and after reviewing my grand jury packet that exposed the truth and the lies, she decided to dismiss this case without even presenting the case to the grand jury. This came only a few weeks after she told me my client was still being investigated by the detectives for sexually assaulting his daughter - whom CPS already determined injured herself.
Cops like these two have no business wearing a badge. They don't deserve to be security guards, loss prevention workers, or anything in society. I wouldn't trust them to flip burgers at McDonalds. Prosecutors like this deserve immense recognition.
Now this guy better pay up.
