Harris County friends — early voting is open now through Feb. 27. Election Day is March 3.
TLDR version - VOTE Judge Tanya Garrison (157th) and Judge Christine Weems (281st)
FULL STORY
You can vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary. This post is about the Civil District Courts on the Democratic ballot, where there are two contested races. (The Republican civil benches are not contested, which is why I’m not weighing in there.)
I’ve been practicing civil litigation in Harris County for well over a decade. I’m in these courts every week. I see which judges move cases, follow the law, and make sure everyone gets a fair shot - whether you’re a small business, a family dealing with a loss, or someone who never expected to be in a courtroom in the first place.
Judge Tanya Garrison (157th) and Judge Christine Weems (281st) are the real deal.
They run efficient courts and keep cases from sitting for years — which means people get answers and can move on with their lives. They don’t play favorites. They don’t make it about themselves. They apply the law the same way no matter who is standing in front of them. And they make sure the courthouse doors stay open to everyone, not just the powerful.
That’s not a partisan statement — that’s what a good trial judge looks like.
Both the plaintiff’s bar and the defense bar will tell you the same thing: they’re fair, they’re prepared, and they treat people with respect while still holding lawyers accountable.
If you’re voting in the Democratic primary, take the time to go all the way down the ballot and find:
✅ Judge Tanya Garrison – 157th Civil District Court
✅ Judge Christine Weems – 281st Civil District Court
These races are several pages in, but they have a direct impact on how justice works in this county for all of us.
If you have questions about the other judicial races, feel free to message me. I’m always happy to share what I’ve seen from actually being in the courtroom.
