The Houston legal community just lost a champion. Jordan Lewis was one of the most brilliant lawyers I knew. I remember back in law school admiring his quick mind and his creativity in forming arguments. I have discussed case issues with him many times over the years, and he could always be counted on to come up with an angle I hadn't thought of. He just had a fresh way of looking at things that never ceased to amaze me. I will miss his boundless energy and his kindness.

It's not everyday that you get to say that you got 237 cases dismissed. But that's what happened today. That smashes my previous personal record of 62.

How is that possible, you ask? Well, client has a convenience store in a strip center. Police entered another business a few doors down and, true to form, went ticket-happy. They wrote citations for just about everything they could think of. They even wrote citations for each individual chipped ceiling tile.

But it turns out it wasn't my client's store they were in. They mistakenly put his address on the tickets and mailed them to him. So I simply told the prosecutor that I wanted copies of the photos they took of the location so I could show it wasn't my client's business, and I set all 237 cases for trial.

Got a fax today from the prosecutor. All cases dismissed!

There are those moments that make it all worthwhile. Recently got a Not Guilty verdict from a jury on a gambling case for a gentleman who never should have been put through this at all. He did nothing wrong, but the Montgomery County prosecutors refused to dismiss the case. Kudos to the client for taking the risk of going to trial. So after a year of all this stress, which was taking a toll on his health, he is finally free of the charges and his record will be cleared. He and his wife, who was there with him every day, both cried. So did I.
