Hey!

One of the biggest challenges I encounter with small mission-driven businesses is the desire to emulate multi-national approaches to operations and impact. There's so much to be said here for another day. But we're excited by the number of businesses reaching out to revisit and reimagine how they show up in their communities. This short interview informs how a small mission-driven business looking for a different way can start to experiment. Just a reminder that small businesses don't just fuel the economy—they shape what community care looks like in real time.

These five climate action plans aren’t just technical documents—they’re community-led strategies rooted in justice, equity, and resilience.

Love seeing how local governments and partners are rethinking what climate leadership actually looks like. Strategy that listens, includes, and transforms? That’s the kind we’re here for.

Hey!

This one made me pause. Subaru and the Arbor Day Foundation are planting 100,000 trees in places hit hardest by natural disasters. It’s not just about reforestation—it’s about long-term healing, resilience, and access.

Sometimes impact looks like rebuilding ecosystems and relationships. We love to see strategy meet stewardship like this.

🌱 Give it a look and think about where your work might plant some roots too: https://www.csrwire.com/press_releases/820026-arbor-day-foundation-and-subaru-drive-community-impact-100000-donated-trees

"Sustainomy" focuses on building lasting value for people and the planet.

This means businesses need to move beyond short-term profits and think long-term. Here's how:
✅ Ecosystem over Market: Think "how can we grow the ecosystem for a longer-lasting market?" rather than just "how can we sell to the market?"
✅ Impact Measurement: Move beyond just profit and measure success based on social and environmental impact too.
✅ Collaboration is Key: Work with competitors, NGOs, and others to create win-win solutions.
✅ Empower Local Innovation: Support communities to develop sustainable solutions that fit their needs.

How do YOU want to see millions of dollars from the SoMa Community Stabilization Fund invested?

Since 2010, the City of San Francisco, through the SoMa Community Stabilization Fund, has invested over $35MM in affordable housing, economic development, and neighborhood improvements within SoMa.

Over the course of several months, we'll be working with community leaders, organizations, local businesses, and residents across SoMa to better understand how they want to see the City continue to invest funds into the SoMa community.

Don't miss this first opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas next week. On June 12th you can drop into an Office Hour from 12-1pm and June 14th you can drop into a mixer/listening session from 6-pm.

Drop in and take a few moments to:
- Share thoughts on how you want to see Funds invested into SoMa,
- Share ideas around organizations servicing SoMa that you want to see resourced,
- Grab some snacks, and
- Meet others from the neighborhood.

Those who drop by will be entered to win a tote of cool products from SoMa businesses.
