The Buzbee Law Firm can confirm that it currently represents the parents of eight special needs children who were allegedly abused while enrolled in the Special Education Program at Nye Elementary, within the United Independent School District, in Laredo, Texas.
The allegations involve deeply disturbing conduct toward vulnerable children and include claims of physical abuse, emotional abuse, and other mistreatment. The children involved range in age from 6-8 years old. There is video of the abuse.
As a direct result of the actions taken by several of the parents we represent, three individuals employed within the district were arrested today in connection with these allegations. The charges are for injury to a disabled child and tampering with school records. Arrested were a special education teacher and two aides. We are told that the Principal resigned. It is alleged that the Principal and others knew that this abuse was occurring as of January 23, 2026, yet failed to act or report the abuse.
Given the ongoing nature of the criminal investigation and the sensitive circumstances surrounding these children and their families, The Buzbee Law Firm has advised all clients not to speak publicly at this time and to refer all media inquiries and questions directly to the law firm.
We are aware of the upcoming school board meeting concerning these events and will be monitoring the proceedings online. We note that the matter was reportedly not properly placed on the agenda for discussion.
Children with special needs are the most vulnerable in our society. Those who abuse them have no place in the school system. We expect the authorities to prosecute those responsible to the full extent of the law, and we expect the school system to determine how such people were ever put in a position to do so. The school system owes these parents answers, accountability, and responsibility. It will be our job to make sure that happens.
These allegations are serious and involve children with special needs who deserve protection, dignity, and proper care while attending school. Our firm intends to pursue all appropriate civil legal remedies on behalf of these families.
