“On November 18, 1999, at 2:41am, tragedy struck Aggieland when the bonfire stack collapsed. 12 Aggies died due to injuries sustained in the collapse.”

I knew nothing about this incident until I went to TAMU in 2007, but since then this day holds a very special place in my heart. Bonfire Memorial is my favorite place on campus. My heart is in Aggieland tonight, at the 2:41am ceremony where the Corps and the student body gather quietly and solemnly around where the center pole once stood. We remember those that came before us, the legacy they left us. Let us never forget their names.

7th grade keyboarding. DeLeon Middle School. Never Forget.

It’s hard to imagine that this was 23 years ago. More than half my lifetime has now passed. We now live in a world of fear. So much has changed since my childhood. Gone are the days of playing in the streets alone until the street lights came on, of visiting foreign countries with no fear. It seems like this was yesterday. We will never forget.

We had such a great time giving away school supplies to the kids of yesterday! I saw a need for a giveaway in this area 3 years ago as our current elected representatives don’t host anything for our community. We had over 300 people come to our event where the kids got school supplies, donuts and tooth brushes 😉 and lots of books from our friends at Texas AFT. We also had a few parents get registered to vote! Thanks to all our volunteers and our friends at American Legion Post 654- Spring Branch, TX for aiding us in helping so many families! Spring Branch is my home and I will help where I can when I can!

When I got into politics, I took for granted the fact that I would meet all these great political leaders on the campaign trail. Sheila Jackson Lee was this elusive person to me, And then I met her. She was kind, she was generous, and she always had encouraging words for me. There will never be anyone like her again, but we will try to walk in her footsteps.

She was a power house. I am proud to have stood with her as we protested the overturning of Roe v. Wade. And I will never forget our conversation outside HCDP headquarters where she gave me the best piece of advice I’ve gotten on the campaign trail: “There will always be people against us, but that’s when we push through and stand up for what we believe in.”

Rest in Power Congresswoman.
