Houston Attorneys took a stand and spoke up against the ICE shootings on July 15, 2026. We commemorated Lorenzo Salgado and those killed by ICE through a demonstration showing the imbalance in the Justice scales. While ICE keeps receiving funding for “training” and “body worn cameras”, it’s clear they don’t have either in this situation and all we see is more victims and people dying at the hands of ICE.

The Supreme Court erred in allowing ICE agents to use racial profiling as an excuse to stop individuals. Racism is NOT common sense.

As busy as our schedules are, whenever justice is on the line, it’s amazing to see the Houston Legal Community come through.

Thank you to each of the speakers for giving hope to our community. Thank you for every attorney that showed up and stood united. It takes a village, and here we are.

Attorney Bianca Santorini came with receipts when talking about the issues that attorneys see on the daily with this current administration. ICE has affected everyone including U.S. citizens because of the color of their skin. We are here to demand respect for the rule of law and explain how this administration is going against the American values and the Constitution.

Attorney Jacky Varela denounced this administration’s attempt to blur the lines. Our government was created with the notion of separation of powers and checks and balances. Blurring the lines between state and federal has led to the deaths, separation of families and abuse of the system. Blurring the lines between executive, judicial and legislative opened those doors. Attorney Varela explained ways we can amend those actions and our gratitude to Harris County District Attorney for his efforts in taking a stand.

Attorney Jorge Garcia and Attorney Juan Aguirre elaborated on the constitutional rights and justice applies to ALL. When someone gets detained for suspicion of a crime, there’s a due process. If the person is undocumented, even if the arrest was unlawful, they might have an ICE hold and fight their case from custody. Not be executed.

Attorney Juan Aguirre breaks down the flaws of the narrative about evading in Lorenzo’s case. Unmarked cars. No sirens. Their story does not line up. We demand Justice for Lorenzo and all those that died at the hands of this government.

Attorney Audris Ponce, one of the organizers for July 15, 2026, spoke on the positive values immigrants have done for our country. The ethical values that as children of immigrants we were taught to defend and advocate for those who were once in our parents’ shoes. She introduced Attorney Jorge Garcia and Attorney Juan Aguirre to discuss the issues this administration has brought into our justice system.

Houston Legal Community gathered on July 15, 2026 behind the scales of justice to honor Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and those lives taken by ICE, by our federal government. You know there’s something wrong with the Trump Administration when attorneys unite to demand justice, transparency and accountability on all levels of our government.

We are grateful for the steps taken to move toward a just and fair independent investigation. We ask to end ICE operations between local law enforcement and the federal government that has overstepped their separation of power. We will look and take any legal avenue available to us to ensure the scales of justice return to its balance. The future of our country depends on it.

This was 30+ plus years in the making. What you don’t see, is the late nights, the organizing, the challenges when things went wrong, the tears to God when times were tough, the research, the “you gotta figure it out because no one else will do it for you” attitude.

Grit, support from my family and friends, and honestly, this unwavering faith in God to guide through the path He wants me.

Raised by a single-mom, my grandma, and my aunt. I got involved in everything and anything from sports, to U.I.L., to organizations, student council and I honestly don’t know how I had so much energy.

Through it all my goal was clear. I wanted to be an attorney, help people, and have my firm.

Spent undergrad without a car (but amazing friends), had a limited budget with student loans, and learned how to put in more study hours.

Took a break when I graduated. Spent time with my family and faced new challenges of a graduate working at a PI firm as a bookkeeper.

Went to law school again with limited financial resources, but the full support of my family. Worked after my first year all throughout.

Took the bar, failed. Didn’t stop… faced a few bar horror stories and took it again this time putting all the time I hadn’t before.. Passed! I was licensed in 2020.

Soon after working at a couple of firms, I launched my firm. I was so caught up with the work, I forgot to realize that I did it. I’m doing it. I’m here…. Can I retire now? lol jk

I’ve been licensed 6 years now. Proud owner of SLM LAW for 4 years. Let’s keep going 👏🏼👏🏼✨

Great presentation from Niko Daboin!

This topic has been on my mind and I’m the first to admit when I’m not familiar with a subject - so, for those that know me, it’s no surprised I did something about it.

I met Niko a couple of years ago and he has been so helpful in teaching me more of the subject and orienting me to the right steps. Naturally, I wanted to share this information with others, who like me, might not have that guidance to plan ahead. So, I thought “oh, wait, I can just do an event.”

I’m so grateful for everyone that showed up,regardless of the weather, and that shares the same interest in learning! Mostly, for going along with my nerdy ideas.

Big thank you to the man of the hour, Niko, for putting together a great presentation and handling the hot seat in a room of intelligent women!
