This is a huge win for civil rights advocates and for the civil liberties of all of us in the United States. Geofence warrants were use in the Jan 6 Capitol Hill riots to determine who was in or near the location. Instead of waiting for the Courts to take this invasive tool away from law enforcement, Google has followed Apple’s lead and simply made it so the company cannot access this information.

“Geofence warrants,” which allow law enforcement to get location data across a wide area, have become commonplace in recent years.

The percentage of anonymous CPS reports of child abuse that were sustained is so minuscule that the benefits don’t outweigh the risks of false reporting.

To curb false reports, Texas will no longer permit anonymous reports of child abuse to CPS, but emergency anonymous tips may be reported to 911.
