America’s highest ideas and greatest accomplishments have arisen from the spirit of innovation, cooperation, co-existence, and constant evolution.

On July 4, 1776, a group of revolutionaries, imperfect men, fallible man, but visionary men, started this country out on a journey from an imperfect union to, as was later written in the U.S. Constitution, “a more perfect union.” As all co-founders, co-workers, and joint venturers can attest: any effort to build something that did not previously exist, that involves the efforts of more than one person to build, it will involve ups and downs, struggles, setbacks, strife, dissent, conflict- but also triumphs, innovations, unity, and success if there is also perseverance.

Building America has been no different.

Over 248 later, Americans have persevered. Americans have moved together toward that more perfect union that is a primary founding purpose of this American effort. All of us have played a role in moving this country forward towards it. We are all responsible for continuing to hone our country to perfection.

This is what we celebrate on July 4th. The efforts of the founding fathers. But also, the trials, tribulations, successes, perseverance, and contributions of our ancestors in getting this nation to its point today, closer still to that more perfect union.

Today we reflect upon and celebrate Juneteenth. It is the anniversary of the day when the last persons remaining in the bo***ge of the institution of slavery in the Confederate States of America learned that they were freed. We pay homage to these, our ancestors, who endured through this horrible institution and survived to see its end. It is also a celebration of all of those who pushed back on the institution of slavery and fought, figuratively and literally, to abolish it so that we may live in the society we do and enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today.

SRA TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Today’s team spotlight shines on Litigation Paralegal Brittany Minter.

Brittany makes the day-to-day operations of the Construction Litigation team run smoothly. She works with our attorneys, staff, clients, various Court personnel, others to move matters forward.

We pestered her for a little time out of her hectic day to answer our questions for this spotlight.

My nickname is… Brit

I can’t go a day without… my favorite snack duo: Lays Sour Cream and Cheddar chips and water

I started in the legal industry as… a Paralegal

My daily routine is… I start my day by reviewing the calendar for any upcoming deadlines and sending reminder emails to the attorneys, responding to emails, respond to potential clients inquiries and evaluate potential cases, check the district clerk and/or county clerk websites for any new case filing, drafting a number of pleadings, motions and/or notices, proof reading/formatting legal documents, lastly, staying on stop of the attorneys about any deadlines, hearings, and/or meetings.

My favorite quote is … “Don’t let your Happenings destroy your Happiness”

Today we honor our fallen heroes and all that they made possible for this country through their sacrifice

SRA TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Today’s team spotlight shines on Office Administrator Melissa Armstrong.

Melissa has worked with our attorneys, staff, clients, and litigation support vendors as SRA’s Office Administrator. During her tenure, she has gone from working with a firm with one office to two offices in different Texas cities. She has seen our attorney team expand from 5 to 10. She has seen our staff increase from 2 to 6. She has worked with contractors during expansion of our Houston office to double its original size.

She was gracious enough to take time from her hectic daily schedule to answer our pesky questions for this spotlight.

My nickname is… Mel

I can’t go a day without… Coffee

I started in the legal industry as… a file clerk for a law firm in my hometown of Brownsville, Texas at the age of 17.

My daily routine is… Coffee, read, work, homeschool, more work, end the night with family tv time. Repeat.

One of my favorite quotes is… ”You don’t learn anything until you learn it more than one way.” - Marvin Minsky.

70 years ago, on May 17, 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its opinion Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. The Court spoke definitively, saying that segregation in public schools was inherently unequal and unconstitutional.

Since then, over time, children all over America have learned and interacted together in ways they did not before the Brown v. Board of Education ruling. Generations of Americans have grown together in an educational environment that did not exist pre-Brown and was intentionally forged by Thurgood Marshall and his team of lawyers, their clients, and the Supreme Court.

At SRA we celebrate with America on the anniversary of this landmark ruling.

Stephens Reed & Armstrong, PLLC

Stephens Reed & Armstrong, PLLC is a boutique law firm focused on commercial litigation, construction law, and employment law. Our firm exists to meet the needs of all businesses and protect their rights. If you are a company or individual engaged in a legal battle regarding employment, construction, corporate disputes or real estate, the firm’s litigation attorneys have skills and legal knowledge you can count on for guidance. Additionally, the firm provides consulting services for businesses, helping them avoid costly administrative mistakes that violate state and federal laws.

Construction and employment laws are very complex. It is very easy to make a mistake that violates the law without realizing it. Likewise, it is not always easy to tell when your rights as an employee have been violated because there is no police force that monitors every employee’s career. If you believe you are in need of legal assistance, it is worth your time to contact an attorney and discuss your situation. The experienced team at Stephens Reed & Armstrong is ready to help.
