Friends of the Appomattox Regional Library System The Hopewell-Prince George Friends of the Library is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Federal Tax ID is 54-1444884.

Role of the Friends

Advocacy: The friends are able to advocate on behalf of the library at the local, state, and federal levels. Financial: The friends help provide the resources for additional programming; much-needed equipment, support for children’s summer reading, and special events throughout the year. Service: Many of our friends choose to give the gift of their time to the Friends bookstor

If you wish to donate to The HPG Friends of the Library by writing a check, please make your check payable to The HPG Friends of the Library and send it to P.O Box 178 Hopewell, VA 23860. Hours of Operation
Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday
10:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Located at the Hopewell Library on the first floor to the left of the main entrance. We are a used bookstore, stocking a selection of fiction, classics, nonfiction, juvenile, and children’s books at very reasonable prices. You can search our shelves for your favorite author or just browse by subject. Each trip to our store is always a treasure hunt and you can be assured that every purchase helps us to support the Appomattox Regional Library System (ARLS). Proceeds from the bookstore support children's and adult reading programs, purchase of equipment, materials, and resources to enhance library services beyond the library’s budget.

Join the Historic Hopewell Foundation for the inaugural lecture of its 2026 Lunch and Learn Lecture Series on Wednesday, May 20, from noon to 1 p.m. at American Legion Post 146 on East City Point Road.

ARLS’s own Jeanie Langford will present “Perseverance: The Beacon Theatre Story,” sharing the 98-year history of Hopewell’s beloved Beacon Theatre. Her talk will explore the theatre’s construction, its lasting place in the community, and its rebirth as an entertainment venue. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view artifacts and ephemera related to the Beacon’s history.

Guests are invited to bring their lunch or purchase one from the American Legion. The Appomattox Regional Library System will record the lecture and post it on the ARLS YouTube channel for those unable to attend.
