If you are a renter having trouble paying your rent or a landlord who has lost rental income due to challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, help may be available. Through funding from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program, there are a wide variety of state and local programs that offer assistance—including financial assistance—to those who are struggling to make ends meet.

ERA programs can vary based on locale since flexibility is given to states to develop programs that best suit the needs of their communities.

Good news for homeowners behind on their mortgages. Biden extended the ban on housing foreclosures to June 30 to help homeowners struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

Please note that this only applies to federally guaranteed mortgages.

The moratorium on foreclosures of federally guaranteed mortgages had been set to expire on March 31. On his first day in office, Biden had extended the moratorium from Jan. 31.

With all the debate going on about the fairness of wiping out student loan debt, it is refreshing to read an article advocating a different path to forgiveness that takes a rational and fair approach that I had not yet heard.

Forgiving student debt to help the economy is a hard sell. And how do you decide whose loan to forgive? There are complex fairness issues to weigh.
