Scammers target people who already owe the IRS β€” because the fear is real, and they count on it.

The 2026 IRS "Dirty Dozen" list flags AI voice-cloned scam calls, phishing texts with QR codes, fake "tax hack" advice on social media, misleading settlement ("OIC mill") offers, and ghost preparers who won't sign your return.

Remember: the IRS contacts you by mail first. Swipe through to learn how to spot the real thing and protect yourself. πŸ“²

Planning summer travel? If you owe the IRS more than $66,000 in combined tax, penalties, and interest β€” and the debt is under active collection. Your passport could be at risk.

Here's the twist: the IRS doesn't take your passport, the State Department does, after the IRS certifies the debt. The warning notice (CP508C) often arrives at the same time as the certification, so there's rarely a real heads-up; which is why people find out at the renewal counter or the airport.

The good news: this is one of the most fixable problems in the IRS toolbox, and resolving it reverses the certification. The key is acting before your trip, not after. Swipe for what to watch for and how to protect your travel plans. πŸ“²

Super Bowl LX players took home a big bonus check. Then the jock tax showed up. 🏈

States tax nonresidents based on "duty days" spent working there, so if 10% of your duty days are in one state, that state may tax 10% of your salary. If you earn income in more than one state, swipe for the breakdown and get expert advice before tax time. πŸ“²

When two people own property together, what happens if one passes away depends entirely on how the title is written.

With a Right of Survivorship, the surviving owner automatically inherits the deceased owner's share, with no probate. It's found in Joint Tenancy with Right of Survivorship and Tenancy by the Entireties (spouses only). Tenants in Common? No survivorship.

It can be removed, but doing so means giving up the automatic transfer and possibly going through probate. Swipe for the full breakdown, then check your deed. πŸ“²

Opportunity Zones just became a permanent part of the tax code and the rules changed with them.

Under OZ 2.0, the zone map now resets every 10 years (next cycle: July 1, 2026), eligibility tightened to the bottom 20% of state median income, and every investor now gets the same deal: a 5-year deferral, 10% step-up in basis, and tax-free growth after 10 years β€” with a full step-up to fair market value if held 30+ years.

Swipe through for the breakdown, then reach out before you deploy your next capital gain. πŸ“²

Justice served. Debt resolved.

At Mitchell St. Louis, P.A., we fight for our clients β€” and the results speak for themselves.

We're proud to share a recent win: a client who owed the IRS over $119,000 saw that debt settled for less than $2,500. This outcome reflects the strength of our strategy and the relentless work our attorneys, Anna and Vladimir, put into every case.
Facing the IRS is stressful. You don't have to do it alone.

Results in past cases do not guarantee similar outcomes in future matters.

Starting July 4, 2026, employers can contribute up to $2,500 per employee, per year, tax-free to their employees' children's Trump Accounts β€” and deduct it as a business expense.

A few catches: that limit is per employee, not per child. Also, if both parents work for the same company, they can each contribute β€” but the total still can't exceed $5,000 per child, per year, once family contributions count too.

Swipe for the full breakdown, and reach out if this could fit your benefits package. πŸ“²

A federal court just ruled that COVID-era IRS penalty relief may have lasted longer than the IRS applied β€” and it could mean refunds for millions of taxpayers.

The catch: relief isn't automatic, and the government is still fighting this ruling. You'll likely need to file a claim to protect your rights, and there's a deadline of July 10, 2026 to do it.

Swipe through for what happened, why it matters, and what to check in your own IRS records. πŸ“²

Child support and alimony get taxed very differently than most people expect, and getting it wrong can cost you.

βœ… Child support: never taxable, never deductible. Full stop.
βœ… Alimony: it depends entirely on when your agreement was signed. Anything after Dec 31, 2018 follows completely different rules than older agreements.

Every case is different, and the details of your divorce or settlement agreement matter. If you're navigating this, let's talk it through.
