Dear Friends and Colleagues –
We hope and pray that you and your families are staying safe and healthy during this trying time. Because of the financial impact of the COV-19 pandemic, in the past few weeks, many of our clients and friends have reached out to The Tarich Law Firm P.A. with questions about their loans and leases, obligations to pay vendors, employees and other debt obligations and to discuss some of the available options at the State and federal levels. While we remain open and available to discuss any questions any of you have, we are writing to remind you, as business owners (and as friends, lenders, legal and financial advisors, etc. of business owners) that oftentimes, you may have been paying for insurance coverage for a situation like this.
Specifically, we are writing to you about Business Interruption insurance. Wikipedia defines Business Interruption insurance as “a type of insurance that covers the loss of income that a business suffers after a disaster.” Of course, the coverage is more nuanced than that and each Business Interruption policy will differ as to what is considered a disaster and what type of income (and how much of it) is covered. That said, if anyone has Business Interruption insurance, it would be waste of months, if not years, of premiums that were paid if the insured / business owner did not at least do the preliminary investigation to determine whether any losses due to the COV-19 pandemic are covered.
