A “Named Peril Policy” means your insurance only covers the specific risks listed in your policy.

If the damage cause isn’t named, it usually isn’t covered.

That’s why understanding this term is so important. Many homeowners assume they’re covered for everything when that’s not always the case.

Knowing the language in your policy helps you avoid costly misunderstandings.

Save this post and check if your policy is named peril or all-risk.

One of the smartest things you can do at the start of the year is review your insurance policy before you ever need it.

Most people only look at their policy after damage happens, and by then, surprises aren’t fun. Knowing what’s covered, what’s excluded, and what type of policy you have puts you ahead of the game.

A few minutes now can save months of stress later.

Save this as a reminder and check your policy this weekend.

Knowledge is protection!

Many policyholders think a claim denial is final, but under Florida law, that’s not always true.

Two common reasons insurers push back:

1️⃣ “Late reporting.” Missing the 1-year filing window under Florida Statute § 627.70132 can trigger automatic denial.

2️⃣ “Pre-existing damage.” Insurers sometimes claim the damage wasn’t storm-related. But with the right evidence — photos, reports, or expert review — that can be challenged.

Florida policyholders have the right to dispute, supplement, or request mediation under § 627.7015.

The holidays can slow everything down, but not your claim rights.

Florida law (§ 627.70131) gives insurers strict timelines to acknowledge, investigate, and pay claims.

Even if offices close or adjust hours, those legal deadlines continue counting.

✅ Keep a record of every email, call, and follow-up.
✅ Don’t assume “holiday delays” give insurers extra time.
✅ If the timeline passes without response, you can request clarification or legal review.

Your peace of mind doesn’t take a holiday and neither should your coverage.

Stay informed, stay protected, and make sure your claim moves even when the calendar slows down.

Save this post for when you’re filing or following up on a holiday-season claim.

A MORTGAGEE is the bank or institution which holds a mortgage on the insured property.

Due to the mortgagee's interest, they must be named as a payee on any coverage check related directly to the property. 🏠

TIP: ➡️ Always check your policy’s “Mortgagee Clause” to make sure the right lender is listed especially if you’ve refinanced or changed banks.

Winter weather may bring calm skies, but here in Florida your roof still works overtime.

Now’s the time to:
✅ Clean those gutters and down-spouts so water doesn’t back up and damage your roof system.
✅ Fix any leaks or missing shingles you spot—hidden damage now can become a major claim later.
✅ Trim overhanging branches so they don’t break free during high winds and strike your roof.
✅ Inspect flashing, vents, and skylights for rust, cracks or gaps—these are common leak entry points.
✅ Document everything: take photos of your roof’s condition now so you’re ready if a claim is ever needed.

By doing a simple roof check today, you protect your home, your family, and your rights if storm season returns.

Don’t wait—your roof deserves the care it gives you.
