Hurricane Milton Update 🌀

A Tropical Storm Warning and Flood Watch are in effect for Hollywood through Thursday. The National Weather Service expects strong, sustained tropical storm force winds and periods of heavy rainfall, with up to 5 inches possible for our area. Secure Loose Items
Residents are asked to secure garbage and recycling carts and mark them with your property address to help speed clean-up and recovery efforts. Ensure all loose items around your home such as outdoor furniture, tools, and decorations are securely fastened or brought inside to prevent them from becoming dangerous projectiles in gusty winds.

Garbage and Recycling Collection
Collections are operating on a normal schedule on Wednesday. Should the collection schedule change for Thursday, an update will be posted to the City’s main website and social media accounts.

Additionally, do not trim trees/landscaping or place bulk items curbside until after Hurricane Milton passes. If you currently have these items curbside, please pull them back in and secure them on your property.

Passengers are encouraged to visit www.gobrightline.com and social media pages for the latest information.
Brightline will resume full operations after an assessment of track conditions once the storm has passed. Passengers who currently have a reservation should refer to their email for updates to their trip.

Flood Safety Reminders
o Call 911 if floodwater impacts your home and creates an emergency situation such as a fire.
o Motorists should not attempt to drive through flooded areas. Remember, "Turn Around, Don't Drown."
o Use caution with electrical appliances, electrical cords and outlets if floodwaters have entered your home.
o Residents should not wade in standing flood water, which can contain contaminants. Following a heavy storm, sharp debris and other items from overturned garbage bins could be hidden in the water and cause injury. Standing water also may contain harmful bacteria that could cause infection. Children and pets should not be allowed to play in flood water.
o Residents should prepare to notify their homeowner’s insurance providers if they experience flood damage and seek their advice on documenting the damage and drying out your home. The same applies for contacting your vehicle insurance provider if you find your vehicle has been damaged.

Clearing Storm Drains
Residents are asked to check the basins on their street and rake away debris to ensure stormwater can easily drain from the road and surrounding properties. During extremely heavy rain, the stormwater system can become overwhelmed causing temporary flooding in low-lying areas. Please do your part by not parking on the swale and keeping catch basins clear.

Adopt a Catch Basin Program
Learn more about the importance of swales and how you can Adopt a Catch Basin to help control flooding in your neighborhood at www.hollywoodfl.org/adoptacatchbasin.

Construction Site Preparation
In preparation for the impacts of Hurricane Milton, Building Department staff have completed inspections of project sites in an effort to encourage contractors to secure their sites.
