Uninsured Motorist (UM) Coverage
Uninsured Motorist Coverage or UM is one of the best investments you can ever make with the money you spend on car insurance.
UM is a type of insurance that protects you and your family when you are involved in a wreck with someone who has no insurance.
UM acts as a backstop. It covers, your lost wages, your medical expenses and your pain and suffering.
If you are involved in a wreck that is not your fault, at times you will find that the person who caused the wreck has no insurance.
We cannot begin to count the times we have advised clients with serious injuries that the person who caused the wreck had no insurance. It is then, when we ask our clients this important question – Did you have Uninsured Motorist (UM) Coverage?
By state law car insurance companies must sale UIM coverage unless it is specifically waived by the customer.
Never waive UM coverage. This is one of the worst mistakes you can make. UM is very inexpensive and it is very important to have.
UM is usually the cheapest insurance to buy.
Most times it is a mere fraction of the premium you pay your car insurance company. For that reason, it is one of the best investments you can ever make.
We would encourage anyone who has car insurance to call their agent and ask them how much UM coverage they currently have and how much more it would cost to double the amount they have on their existing policy. It is a decision you will not regret.
