Today's verdict in Los Angeles, and yesterday's verdict in New Mexico, potentially open up the "flood gates" for claims against the social media companies based on their product's inherent design and algorithms. The legal field is expecting appeals which will ultimately establish case law precedent, and likely result in legislation if the verdicts are upheld. For the moment, these cases involve mental health impacts suffered by children. Everybody who watched Netflix "Social Dilemna" saw the documentary of the hows and whys that social media is so addictive, and we have all experienced impacts within our families and selves.
