My heartfelt appreciation and congratulations to my paralegal Ammie Edwards Shupe on her retirement today after 28 years! I was friends with Ammie in high school. I saw what potential she had and hired her a couple years after I started my law practice when she was working in a sewing factory. Ammie quickly excelled and became one of the very few certified paralegals in Southwest VA and perhaps the best.

Much of our law firm's success can be attributed to Ammie. Our clients loved her. We prepared thousands of cases together and she gave me great insight. Most importantly, she kept me grounded and is like a sister I never had.

Ammie gave us two years notice of her retirement. During that time Daniela Garcia, a former Carroll County Court Clerk, has seamlessly transitioned into part of Ammie's job as paralegal for criminal law. Brandi Hyatt, who has been with us for several years and is an EMT and firefighter, will now be our office manager and paralegal for personal injury and family law. It took two incredible employees to replace Ammie! We also are delighted to have Avi Vera as our Director of Client Relations. Avi worked in customer relations for several years at Wells Fargo Bank in Galax, VA and is a real asset to our firm.

I wish Ammie and her husband Eric all the best as they travel the country in their RV. Ammie figured out my plan as pictured below to wrap their RV in McGrady Law regalia so my plot did not make it to fruition.
