I was born and raised in Vegas, Vegas is my home and always will be. But anytime growing up when you would tell people you’re from Vegas they would look at you like you were from outer space, always thinking you must live on the strip and go play blackjack everyday. Never bothered me, I knew there has always been so much more to the city and the amazing people in it.
Then in the midst of tragedy this city showed the world its heartbeat and that it wasn’t the strip, it was the people living in the communities surrounding it, and how we were a community that cared for and supported each other even in the worst of times. We were able to finally show the world our heart because of a hockey team that finally gave us a place to come together as a community that we really never had before. They gave proof through our Knight that we had something to lean on, and people to lean on.
The Golden Knights helped our city heal and while how they did that first amazing season was a golden lining, to the people that called Vegas home it didn’t matter how they did that season because they gave us a place to come together when we needed it most. From that point forward the Knights was Vegas’ team, and in a lot of way it’s heart.
That is why today every Vegas native is beaming with pride, because OUR team, are the champions. They didn’t need to be for us to love them, we will not matter what, but now when you say you’re from Vegas people know there’s a lot more here than just the strip (most of the time), because the Knights made us a hockey town and now have made us the home of the STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS! Amazing. Thank you Vegas Golden Knights!
