NOTICE TO RECREATIONAL DRONE OPERATORS......

Aeronautical Knowledge and Safety Test Updates

The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST)
The FAA's 2018 Reauthorization Bill (PDF) introduced new requirements for recreational drone pilots (see P.L. 115-254, Section 349 (PDF) – exception for limited recreational operations of unmanned aircraft). The law requires all recreational flyers pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety test and carry proof of passage when flying.
The FAA is developing The Recreational UAS Safety Test or TRUST in three stages. First, the FAA developed the test content with input from drone stakeholders. Next, the FAA issued a Request for Information seeking to work with drone stakeholders on the administration of the test. The FAA is now ready for the third stage, to make the test available to recreational flyers through FAA Approved Test Administrator of TRUST.
As drones become more popular and accessible, the FAA is committed to ensuring that the public is aware of regulations and how to operate safely in the nation's airspace.
