Detention officers carry a heavy responsibility, often with little recognition. Even when they are understaffed and underappreciated, they continue to serve our community with professionalism and dedication.

We've been alerted that scammers are targeting individuals recently bonded out of jail. These scammers watch jail rosters closely, quickly search for relatives, and then call with alarming threats demanding immediate payment for a "mandatory GPS tracking bracelet."

They often demand deposits of thousands of dollars upfront and threaten arrest or legal consequences if payment isn't made immediately.

Protect yourself by asking the caller detailed questions:

What is your full name, badge number, and the agency you represent?

Which judge signed the GPS tracking order and what is the case number?

What exact model of GPS bracelet will you install?

Can you provide official documentation proving this requirement?

Why specifically is the deposit amount required, and can you provide an official receipt?

What specific location will the installation take place?

Have you coordinated directly with my bondsman?

Remember:

Legitimate bondsmen or authorities never demand immediate payment through phone threats.

Always verify directly with your bondsman or the official court system before making any payments or commitments.
