What happens if I don't file by April 15th?
Failure-to-file penalty: for individual taxpayers, this penalty is 5% of your unpaid taxes for each month (or partial month) that your taxes stay unpaid, capping off at 25% of the total balance due. (WSJ) Failure-to-pay penalty: 0.5% of the unpaid balance each month up to 25% of the total balance due.
