Many people assume they don’t qualify for 9/11 benefits because they “weren’t there long enough.” But eligibility is more complex than most realize. Exposure duration requirements vary based on where you were, when you were there, and what you were doing in the aftermath of 9/11. Our latest blog breaks down the rules for survivors, responders, cleanup workers, and more.

While exposure duration is an important part of your 9/11 story, it is only one piece of the larger picture. Learn more to see if you are eligible for compensation.

On May 30, 2002, the rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero formally came to an end after 260 days of tireless work. Today, on the 24th anniversary of that day, we honor the first responders, construction workers, ironworkers, volunteers, and recovery crews who worked in unimaginable conditions in the aftermath of September 11th.

We also stand with the thousands of people still facing 9/11-related illnesses nearly 25 years later, including first responders, downtown workers, residents, students, teachers, and volunteers exposed to the toxic dust and debris in the months following the attacks. While the recovery effort officially ended in May 2002, the impact of 9/11 continues to affect families to this day.

This National EMS Week, we recognize the EMTs and paramedics who continue to answer the call with courage, compassion, and resilience. At Hansen & Rosasco, we are proud to represent many first responders affected by the toxic exposure following September 11th, and we know firsthand the sacrifices EMS professionals make every day in service to others.

We are also especially proud to have members of our own team who volunteer as EMTs in their communities, continuing that same commitment to helping others both inside and outside of the office.

To all EMS professionals: thank you for your service, your strength, and the care you provide when people need it most.

The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund is currently taking about 15 months to issue award decisions on claims. Understanding the process, and filing your claim properly from the start, can make a significant difference in avoiding delays.

If you have questions about your eligibility or where your claim stands, Hansen & Rosasco is here to help.

Missing the two-year registration window or failing to certify your condition with the WTC Health Program before submitting a claim will likely result in your VCF claim being denied.

As National Nurses Week comes to a close, we want to recognize the nurses who continue to care for and advocate for the 9/11 community every single day.

Many of those exposed to toxins in the aftermath of 9/11 are still facing serious health conditions decades later. Nurses have played an essential role in helping survivors, responders, downtown workers, residents, and students receive the care, monitoring, and support they deserve through the World Trade Center Health Program.

To every nurse who has stood beside the 9/11 community with empathy, strength, and unwavering care - thank you.

This Mother’s Day, we honor the strength, love, and resilience of all mothers, including those whose lives were forever changed by September 11th.

In October 2001, founding partner Troy Rosasco took on his very first 9/11 case: representing a mother whose son worked at Windows on the World in the North Tower, and unfortunately, never came home.

At a time when so many families were grieving unimaginable loss and facing uncertainty about the future, Troy fought to secure significant compensation and burial benefits for her family. As he did with all of his 9/11 cases at the time, he waived his legal fee because helping these families mattered more.

More than two decades later, that same commitment remains at the heart of everything we do. We know these cases are never just claims. They are families, memories, and loved ones whose stories deserve to be honored with compassion, dignity, and care.

Today, we stand with every mother, every family member, and every 9/11 victim whose strength continues to inspire us.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Hansen & Rosasco.
