Good news, folks! The New York License Application window is quickly approaching! Final regulations have been approved and a draft application was released yesterday morning.

1. A 60-day window to submit license applications will begin on October 4, 2023. Cultivation, processor, distribution, retail, and microbusiness license applications will be accepted at that time. On-site consumption and delivery are still TBD.

2. It seems that applicants will receive a provisional license, and then need to provide much more detail in a second round submission to get a final license (like in the CAURD program).

3. The review of retail applications will be fast tracked if an applicant has already secured a location.

4. Social and Economic Equity Applicants will receive a 50% reduction in fees.

Jayson Tantalo of the CAURD Coalition wrote an open letter to Gov. Hochul, urging her to call a special session of the state legislature to pass Sen. Cooney’s bill that would have legislatively blessed the CAURD program, forestalled the TRO and presumably saved New York's legal cannabis market. Everyone needs to implore their legislators to vote with Sen. Cooney!

Meet Our Team, Part 2!

John Pullman is our newest associate, having joined the firm in September of 2022. John is a graduate from the prestigious Georgetown Law and he’s made a great impression as he gets to know folks around the office!
Drafting agreements is a task that stands out for John; even simple agreements can have layers of complexity. John enjoys the challenge of converting informal, and sometimes unspoken, understandings into binding, written contracts. A good contact can serve two parties for years. When he’s not working, John enjoys playing tennis, or watching MMA.

Update!! The pause on the licensing process will continue at least another two weeks. The judge strongly encouraged both sides to find a middle ground to prevent further harm from delays.

According to the attached affidavit which was submitted yesterday, the pause on issuing more licenses will not only delay the application window by at least 2.5 months, it will also contribute to the proliferation of the traditional market in the meantime.
