Helping out another client today whose partner is selling their home and moving in with my client (who owns the house they'll be living in). It's important to talk about expectations when moving in with your partner not only for the sake of your relationship but also to ensure they are provided for if the homeowner passes away. Without either retiling the home into both names or a life estate deed, and without a trust or will which says otherwise, the home will pass to my client's children outright leaving the partner out of the mix. We have helped many clients include provisions on their estate plans to ensure their partner can remain in the home if they pass away.
