WORRIED ABOUT CANCELING AN EVENT DUE TO COVID-19?!

I've received many inquiries recently on this topic. If you put money as a down payment to hold some sort of event or gathering at a venue or other location this summer or fall, don't be so quick to simply call and cancel. This may give the company grounds to keep any deposit per the contract language. Make sure you communicate to the vendor the "impracticality" and "impossibility" of holding your event safely due to the public health emergency. Perhaps your contract clearly lays out what happens in these scenarios under a clause or section labeled "Termination/Cancellation", "Impracticality" , "Contractual Frustration", or "Force Majeure". However, it is unlikely the language will be tailored to fit a pandemic scenario like we are in now.

Communication is key! From the stories I've heard from people with firsthand knowledge, large companies are handling this well (in general). If you need help, I got a guy.

Hope everyone is staying safe. The legal industry and the Stampone O'Brien Dilsheimer firm is up and running virtually. Calls to the office are passed onto our cell phones and our voicemails are sent to our email.

I have noticed more clients coming in lately involved in motor vehicle accidents with a PEDESTRIAN also involved...sure enough, the numbers are telling me I was right. Please be careful during these wet and cold months, especially. Take precaution and talk to your loved ones!
