Happy New Month!
August is Make-A-Will Month.
You do not need to begin with legal language.

Begin with three lists:
- Who depends on you?
- What do you own or manage?
- Who would you trust with responsibility?

Include the home, accounts, insurance, business interests, valuable personal items and anything another person would struggle to locate.

The legal documents come later. The first useful step is getting the facts out of your head and onto one page.

Save this and give yourself twenty quiet minutes this weekend.

If you have a child turning 18 this spring or summer, this carousel is for you.
The day they turn 18, your legal authority to help them in a medical emergency ends. A hospital can refuse to share information. You cannot authorize care. You have no legal standing without prior
paperwork.

Three documents fix this. They take one short appointment.
Swipe through. Then share with every Texas parent who has a teen heading toward adulthood this year

Texas law does revoke certain spousal provisions in a will after divorce, but only certain ones.
Beneficiary designations on retirement accounts, life insurance policies, and payable-on-death accounts are governed by their own rules and require separate updates. A former spouse’s name on those forms may still control where the money goes.

If you have been through a divorce in the past few years and have not done a full estate-document audit, this is the conversation to start.

Texas does not automatically extend legal rights to a long-term partner who is not a legal spouse.
No Medical POA naming your partner no clear authority to make healthcare decisions for you.
No Durable POA, no automatic access to accounts. No will or trust naming them Texas intestacy passes assets to blood relatives by default.
These are predictable legal outcomes for unplanned families. They are also entirely fixable
