"Update: Day 8 without heat. Got an estimate for almost $7,000 to replace our furnace. Ugh.

Our home warranty company denied the first two estimates ($1800 total) to replace the control board and secondary heat exchanger. Ugh!

Frustrated, I called my husband to relay the bad news about the denial of the repairs. He was out of state at the time, but calmly asked, 'What did the attorneys say?' I told him I hadn't called yet. He laughed and said 'Call them and forget about it. It will work out.'

So, I called LegalShield. They assigned us a consumer attorney to deal with the rest. That attorney had another 3rd party come out to inspect the issues... who found much more than the original repair orders! Major safety issues were addressed.

Upshot: We're expecting delivery of our brand new furnace this Wednesday. We'll have to pay for permits... but that's it!

When I met a woman at a laundromat to return her keys, there was a man outside who was upset because the owner wouldn’t hand over his laundry. He explained the situation to me. When I gave him my business card, he said, “I have LegalShield!” He told me the name of the person who sold him his membership, who happens to be a good friend of mine.

He had already called the police. I told him he could call an attorney, too. He did so just before the police arrived, and explained what happened. He was so shook up it was hard for him to describe the situation, so I helped him

When the police arrived, the attorney gave him some advice then patiently waited on the line. The police officer went in to talk to the owner, then came out and told him to get his laundry.

That man was so excited about having the ability to talk to an attorney and get legal help immediately. He called and left me a long message thanking me for reminding him he had the power.
