Our next spotlight is from Amanda, a licensed escrow officer. Amanda has her BA in Anthropology from Rice University (2006) and her JD from South Texas College of Law (2009).

I began my career in the title industry working for Yates Title (then known as Hamilton-Hico Title and Abstract Company), in 1999 while in high school. Through high school, college, and law school, I worked almost exclusively in Law or Real Estate except for 6 months when I worked for a Family Lawyer and for the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship coordinating, organizing, and hosting tech start-up conferences and their annual tech start-up competition. Since graduating from law school, I have worked for Yates Title and Stewart Title. At Stewart Title I managed a national loan team which specialized in Home Mortgage Refinances, FHA Purchase Loans, and Veteran Loans. After returning home to Yates Title in March 2016, I have worked on all types of title transactions from open to close. I am particularly focused on closing, funding, and post-closing, but I am happy to assist in all parts of the transaction.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, Mark Thompson. We both come from families who have been deeply rooted in Hamilton for more than five generations. We have two wonderful children and are so thankful to have the opportunity to raise our children in the community that raised us. In my spare time, I collect Wonder Woman memorabilia and sing Lead for Chisholm Trail Chorus which is an all-women's barbershop chorus and a part of Sweet Adeline's International.

Nancy has committed the last 25 years to representing her clients in a wide variety of matters in Hamilton and surrounding counties. She handles everything from simple divorces to complex litigation to pipeline easement negotiations to probate matters. It is not unusual for Nancy to be in court for a mother in a custody battle, a surviving spouse on a probate, and a person making a breach of contract claim all on the same day. She tried the case in the 220th Judicial District that resulted in the largest jury verdict - approximately $4,000,000. But don't ask her about criminal work, federal tax law, or immigration matters. She will be the first to tell you that she doesn't do any of that.

Nancy graduated from The University of Texas School of Law in 1986 with honors. She returned to Hamilton and opened her own practice in 1993. Shortly thereafter, she married Randy Yates and they have had the privilege of raising Sophia and Luke in Hamilton with their cousins, grandparents, and great-grandparents.

Nancy acquired what is now named Yates Title from her brother Gary. Yates Title assists land sellers and buyers in Hamilton County throughout the real estate process from contract to closing.

When not working, Nancy spends her time gardening, cooking and traveling.

Nancy began her law practice in Fort Worth after graduating from the University of Texas School of Law, with honors, in 1986. She came home to Hamilton and opened her own practice. She subsequently acquired the title company now known as Yates Title.

With a professional and motivated staff, Yates Law and Yates Title provide legal and title services in the fields of real estate, family law, and estate planning and probate. In recent years, a substantial part of the practice has been devoted to partitions of real property among co-owners, pipeline easement negotiations for landowners, and access easement disputes.

Yates Law and Yates Title are located on the east side of the Hamilton Courthouse Square in the historic and beautifully renovated Chesley Building.
