LIFE happens to us all - good times and not-so-good times.

“The member called our LegalShield provider law firm quite upset. Her house had burned down and her homeowner’s insurance company was denying the $250,000.00 claim. Most attorneys would jump at the chance to take that case on a contingency of about $80,000.00 but our firm opted to help her at no additional charge under the included provision of letters and phone calls. Our attorney first contacted the member’s insurance company's attorney to encourage them to pay the claim. The answer: still denied. He next wrote a letter to her insurance company, demanding immediate payment, or we would file suit for the $250K, court costs, attorney's fees, and, as provided under state law, three times the damages for bad-faith denial of their client's claim and their outrageous behavior. The insurance company promptly replied back that they had reconsidered, and would pay the claim. The frosting on the cake? The executives of the local branch of the insurance company took the member out to lunch to apologize for the way everything was handled. How much did this cost the member? Not one cent over her monthly membership fee.”

Caring for members - today my biz partner had a member send him an email with a court order saying she was being sued. It appears that the issue that led to the lawsuit happened before she was a member. That meant she wasn't covered under the trial defense area. He called her and was able to calm her down and tell her precisely what to do. Here is what he told her.

1) I understood how stressful this was.
2) I told her I had checked the date and it appeared that she wasn't covered for trial defense.
3) I told her that she should call her law firm in WA and possibly they would refer her to the OR firm where the lawsuit was located.
4) I told her that consultation was covered under the membership and that the law firm should make sure her insurance company was doing the right thing for her.

She was so relieved and went off to call the lawyers and start the process BEFORE she spoke to her insurance company.

The American Bar Association reports that roughly 6 out of 10 Americans don't have a current or updated Last Will & Testament (if they have one at all).
