The Law Office of Matthew V. Portella, LLC is a well-established criminal defense, solo-attorney law practice with a reputation for excellence. Our practice is focused on state and municipal court criminal defense, DWI, and domestic violence matters. We have a beautiful office located in Haddonfield’s wonderful downtown.

We're in search of an experienced criminal defense paralegal to join our team and help maintain the standard of excellence for which we're known.
Responsibilities Include:
• Assisting solo attorney with tasks related to interviewing new clients and maintaining case files
• Reviewing discovery and providing legal memos to attorney which include a summary of the case facts, missing discovery items, legal issues, and defenses
• Preparing motions, legal briefs, and letters under the supervision of the attorney
• Litigation support tasks such as drafting subpoenas and creating trial notebooks
• Filing pleadings, notices, etc. electronically with the court
• Drafting, filing, and following up with expungements
• Communicating with clients and providing case updates promptly
• Interacting with prosecutors, court staff members, opposing counsel, law enforcement, experts, and witnesses
Qualifications / Skills:
• Must have experience as a criminal defense paralegal in New Jersey
• Must have high attention to detail and be proactive with problem-solving
• Must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable with taking initiative on finding solutions to any obstacles which may arise
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and case management software
• Be able to provide excellent client service with a positive attitude
• Be a team player who works well with others and also be able to work independently with minimal instruction at times
• Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational, time management, and planning/prioritizing skills
