In 2015, I was challenged to think about my "Why"-- Why do I get out of bed every day? Why do I practice divorce and family law? What part of the community do I really want to help? How many lives can I and would want to impact? You know... all the things! I knew the answer right away but took me a hot minute to get the courage to say it out loud.

In 2018, I made a bold move and niched the practice to support Men's & Fathers' Rights. We all know divorce is a difficult and challenging time for families, but what I felt wasn’t getting enough attention was the importance of remembering and truly considering the positive impact that involved and engaged fathers have in their children's lives. Also, recognizing the negative impact on children when good fathers are absent. I know what that is firsthand. Studies have shown that children who have a strong relationship with both parents, even after divorce, have better outcomes in terms of their emotional and psychological well-being.

I admittedly was terrified of the potential backlash and criticism given the sensitivity around this issue, and our mission would inevitably ruffle some feathers. Well, I'm proud to announce that we ended up fluffing more feathers than those we may have ruffled.

With the assistance of an amazing team with an unwavering commitment to the cause, 2022 was a record year for us and we continue to grow year after year!

It is with great honor that the firm was featured on the Law Firm 500 list for the 5th consecutive year in a row. Law Firm 500 recognizes the top-growing law firms across the country. We placed this year in the top 100 of the fastest-growing law firms with 104% growth.

We are so proud of the work we do and the commitment of each and every member of our team promoting the importance of strong father-child relationships.

There is so much more work to do on this mission, but we will take a moment to celebrate our achievements thus far-- and then get back to work! ;-)

We don't mean to be flippant, but there is 100% truth here. You will survive. All our clients report after it's over that they are living a much better life all around. We know you can't trust it or see it yet, but that doesn't make it less of a reality. Stay the course. You deserve to be happy.

Fathers.

Welcome back to school!

Let’s do our school checklist for fathers.

- Check your court order to confirm you have never had a judge order you have ZERO parental or custodial legal rights.

- Make a copy of said court order.

- Go to your kids school.

- Bring your copy of said court order.

- Introduce yourself to main office personnel.

- Advise office personnel you’re the father of X y and a child.

- Ask to be placed on all communications the custodial parent would receive. Medical communications. Report card communications. All email communications.

- If they refuse ask to to speak with the Principal.

- Advise the principal you want a copy of the parenting plan retained on record and placed in the child’s file for any and all communications the custodial parent would receive about parent teacher conferences, grades, report cards, medical logs etc.

- Email the principal and office personnel a digital copy of court order stating: "It was a pleasure meeting you all today. For easier reference I have attached our court order for your records. Thank you”.

It is against federal and most state laws to deny access to a parent to school or medical records without a judges expressed written consent. IE: a restraining order expressly written with a judges signature forbidding you from those records.

It’s called FERPA. Schools take this seriously because if they are found to be in violation of FERPA they will lose funding for their entire state school districts. Not just their school but the entire states funding.

Know your rights and enforce them.

FERPA.

You are equal to not less than.
