We are excited to announce that the Honorable Peter J. Melchionne (Ret.) has joined HDRB&B’s Matrimonial & Family Law Department and will lead its new family law dispute resolution team. With an illustrious career spanning over 15 years as a Family Court Judge, including a prominent role as the Presiding Judge of the Family Part in Bergen County, Judge Melchionne has been instrumental in resolving thousands of complex divorce and family law matters, including cases involving domestic violence, child abuse, and neglect.

Drawing upon his exceptional expertise, Judge Melchionne will provide HDRB&B clients with dispute resolution, arbitration, and matrimonial and family law mediation services. Complementing our highly skilled matrimonial and family law team, Judge Melchionne will leverage his unique experience to provide insight and beneficial guidance to our clients. Although he will not be directly representing individual clients in his role at the firm, he will be available to consult with new and existing clients in addition to providing mediation and arbitration services to those seeking assistance with their matrimonial and family matters.

Known for his remarkable ability to connect with lawyers and litigants alike, Judge Melchionne's warm and personable demeanor sets the stage for effective problem-solving and creative resolutions. As a highly skilled mediator and arbitrator, he establishes a conducive forum for addressing ongoing issues, expertly utilizing alternate dispute resolution techniques. His holistic approach enables him to perceive difficult and intricate situations from multiple angles, allowing for comprehensive and innovative solutions.

Judge Melchionne's extensive experience and deep understanding of the complexities surrounding custody and parenting issues make him a trusted resource for navigating complex family dynamics. Additionally, his strong financial background, complemented by a degree in Economics from Seton Hall University, enhances his ability to comprehend and address the financial aspects inherent in matrimonial cases.

Judge Melchionne has appeared on esteemed panels at the annual and mid-year meetings of the NJSBA and other prestigious organizations and he continues to share his wealth of knowledge and experience through teaching engagements for Judicial Education, providing comprehensive training to judges at all stages of their careers.

Prior to serving in the public sector, Judge Melchionne had a successful 25-year tenure running his private practice in New Jersey. During this time, he skillfully represented individuals, businesses, and municipal bodies in various practice areas encompassing real estate, civil and criminal matters, matrimonial cases, land use, commercial law, estate planning, and probate matters. Judge Melchionne graduated with honors from Seton Hall University Law School in 1983, following the completion of his degree in Economics from Seton Hall University in 1979.
