LISTEN!!!!!
Federal regulators on Tuesday enacted a nationwide ban on new noncompete agreements. For business owners... YES this affects your employees' ability to quit and go work for someone else in your industry, and it also allows them to leave your establishment and open shop in a business identical to yours. This is a huge ban and will take effect in 120 days.

Of course several agencies have stated their intent to sue, but right now it is set to take effect. The only agreements saved are those existing non-competes with senior executives.

This is also a threat to your ability to protect your trade secrets. I am going to do a short seminar on this next week so make sure to join. A link will be posted shortly!

Long Post Alert!! But Worth Reading..

People are doing A LOT of planning for 2024, and frankly most of those resolutions won’t make it past New Years Day. 👀 Loss of life happened in 2023 just as every year, and that made me think about the most overlooked area in my law practice: ESTATE PLANNING. This is a concrete topic to act upon in 2024, and you can start by answering the following questions:

❓When is the last time you spoke to someone about what will happen with your assets when you pass away.
❓When is the last time you considered how your affairs will be handled in the event you become incapacitated or unable to handle your person and your estate?
❓How do you want things to be handled?
❓Who will be nominated to look after your children if you pass away?
❓Have you made an inventory of your assets and financial obligations to determine how they fit into the scheme of probate law?
❓Do you need a will? What will happen if you don’t have one?

These are hard questions that people don’t want to think about, because just thinking about unexpected life events and death makes them CRINGE.

Some of you probably think you don’t need to plan, but if you own ANYTHING (home, car, bank accounts, jewelry, business, etc.) you actually DO.

If you don’t decide how these things will happen, AND make plans for them, then the law of your state will decide for you. Wouldn’t you rather make those decisions now while you are capable?

Setting goals for the new year is one thing, but making sure you have your house in order from a legal standpoint is another.

My firm is offering discounted estate planning consultations if they are scheduled during the first week of January 2024 only.

Use the link below to take the first step in getting your estate plan together in the New Year.

This past weekend, I did a presentation on estate planning at a financial literacy forum.

I was shocked to find out that out of all of the people in the room, ONLY 1 HAD A WILL!

❌Most of the group knew nothing for planning for their estate after death.

❌Most of the group had never spoken with an attorney about estate planning.

❌They didn't know where to start

Most of them thought their estate was not valuable enough to engage in estate planning.

Ask yourself these questions...
--Why am I working hard during my life?
--Who do I want to inherit my property after I die?

You SHOULD know the answers to these questions, and you SHOULD care!

If you have any personal or real property at death, it passes to someone when you die.

If you don't plan how your property will be distributed after you pass away, your state law will. You may not want those people to gain ownership of your assets.

Let's be real, there are some family members WHO ARE THE LAST PEOPLE ON EARTH YOU WANT WITH YOUR PROPERTY.👀👀

Are you working during your life only to let someone tell you who will inherit your assets after you pass away? I think NOT!

Don't fool yourself into thinking you don't have enough assets to plan for your estate! YOU DO!

DM Vallrie Dorsey Law or visit ur website to explore your options. You will be glad you did.
