As many of you know, I co-own Karter Schools with my sisters and now serve as CEO, while continuing my real estate career with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty.
One question I get often is, “How do you manage it all?”
The truth is, I don’t do it alone.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned in my 40s is that being a good leader doesn’t mean doing everything yourself. It means building the right team, trusting people to do what they do best, and being okay with asking for help.
At Karter Schools, I have an incredible team that keeps our schools moving forward every day. In real estate, I have an amazing transaction manager who keeps me organized and allows me to focus on my clients. At home, I have family who helps with the kids and day to day life, and a husband who watches the numbers and occasionally has to keep some of my big ideas in check.
I used to think I needed to have my hands in everything. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that sometimes growth comes from learning when to let go and letting great people do what they’re great at.
Whether I’m wearing my CEO hat, Realtor hat, mom hat, or wife hat, none of it happens without the people around me.
It really does take a team and a tribe, and I’m incredibly grateful for mine.
And of course, I can’t end this without a sales plug because, after all, I’m still in sales.
If you have friends or family looking for childcare or early childhood education in Colorado or Virginia, I would love for you to check out Karter Schools. All 7 of our schools are owned and operated by our family. We’re sister owned, not a franchise, and have no outside investors. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built together.
And if you know someone thinking about buying or selling a home, even in a 7.5% interest rate market, send them my way. Let’s be honest, higher rates haven’t stopped us from buying the things we really want. The housing market is no different. It just means the numbers, price, terms, and strategy matter that much more.
People still need to move. Families need more space. People relocate, downsize, invest, or simply find a house they love. My job is to help figure out how to make the numbers and the deal make sense in the market we’re in, not wait around for the “perfect” market.
So yes, schools and houses. Apparently, I sell both.
I’m incredibly thankful for every referral, recommendation, review, and share that supports both businesses.
