In Colorado, landowners must “fence out” herds of livestock if they don’t want them grazing on their land, according to the state’s “fence-out” rule. It also puts the onus on the landowner to properly maintain the fence if they hope to recoup any property damages caused by livestock breaking through.

Hackstaff, Snow, Atkinson & Griess regularly works with both landowners and livestock owners to navigate the grayer areas of the fence-out rule, so that issues with grazing leases and other disputes can be resolved.

Learn the basics of the fence-out rule and what landowners and ranchers can do to maintain the peace:

What does this mean for potential and current gun owners? In addition to the background check and waiting period, gun purchasers will need to complete an in-person training course and pay some additional fees.
