This May, our team at Egerton Law is recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month by shedding light on an important distinction: the difference between mental health and mental health conditions.
These terms are often used interchangeably, but they mean different things—and understanding that difference can make it easier to care for ourselves and support the people around us.
Here’s a simple breakdown:
💚 Mental health is something everyone has. It reflects how we think, feel, and handle daily life.
💚 Mental health conditions are diagnosable disorders such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD. More than half of people will experience one at some point.
💚 You can have a mental health condition and still experience strong mental well-being with treatment, support, and healthy habits.
💚 You can struggle with mental health due to stress, grief, or major life changes without having a diagnosed condition.
💚 Simple daily care matters. Journaling, movement, breathing exercises, and connecting with loved ones can help support your well-being.
💚 Professional help can make a real difference. Therapy and counseling are valuable tools for anyone—not just those with a diagnosis.
We encourage our community to take care of themselves and check in on one another. If you need support, reach out to a trusted health care professional. You’re never alone in this.
