Office Closure Notice

The Hale County Extension Office will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of Juneteenth.

Our office will reopen on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. and resume regular business hours.

Way to go, Mr. Eddie Smith, President of the BBSFRIA, and Mr. Tommy Teacher, retired Extension Agent and member of the BBSFRIA, for taking time to teach K–3 students at the Akron S.P.A.R.K. Summer Program about how plants grow from seeds and for sharing valuable lessons on proper farming and harvesting practices.

This kind of hands-on learning is so important for our youth, helping them understand where their food comes from and how to plant, grow, and care for it themselves. These early lessons build lifelong skills, encourage healthy eating, and strengthen appreciation for agriculture.

Calling All Hale County Farmers, Gardeners, and Home Growers!

Do you have questions about your crops, garden, landscape, pests, soil health, or other horticulture needs? Join us for a special Hale County Meet & Greet with Margaret Ann Snow, Home & Commercial Horticulture Agent for Hale County.

This is a great opportunity to share your ideas, concerns, and suggestions while learning how Alabama Extension supports local farmers, producers, and home gardeners across the region.

Margaret Ann Snow serves the following counties (Geographic Area of Responsibility): Choctaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Wilcox Counties.

Got a bumper crop of tomatoes? A giant squash? A funny-looking carrot? Show us what you're growing!

Submit your best homegrown fruit or vegetable photo in the comments for a chance to win Alabama Extension goodies and, of course, ultimate bragging rights.

Ready, Set, Grow!

The Summer Container Garden Project is underway at the Greensboro Boys & Girls Club under the guidance of Justin Tate, ANR Regional Extension Agent with Tuskegee University Extension.

The garden is already taking shape, with squash planted in the first row on the right, okra growing in the middle row, and cucumbers climbing the trellis in the third row.

This unique collaboration brings together Tuskegee University Extension, the Hale County Extension Office/Alabama Extension, the ACES Master Gardener Program, the Black Belt Small Farmers Ruminant Improvement Association, the Greensboro Boys & Girls Club, and the Rural South Institute.

The Summer Container Garden Project provides youth with the opportunity to learn about gardening, food production, teamwork, and responsibility while gaining valuable hands-on experience. We enjoy seeing their excitement, curiosity, and growing interest as they watch their garden develop throughout the season.
