This morning at 8:00am on Lawyer Up with Two Guys Named Chris, Lisa will report on several trending legal news stories including: A South Carolina woman died after being struck by an umbrella at a Lake Marion restaurant called Driftwood Grill Home of the Lazy Gator. A strong gust of wind blew the umbrella from a nearby table and it struck the woman, severing her carotid artery. Lisa will discuss South Carolina premises liability law and the restaurant’s duty to secure or remove umbrellas during storms. A Florida family is under daily attack from golf balls from a nearby country club. The balls have shattered car windows, damaged their fence, and hit family members. They are especially concerned about their 18 month old twins’ safety. Lisa will discuss nuisance law and whether the course has a duty to mitigate the barrage of golf balls. She will also explore whether the family assumed the risk by moving near a golf course. In California, a Christian lifeguard who refused Pride flag duties at the Los Angeles Fire Department is headed to trial. He requested a religious accommodation, which was granted, but later removed Pride flags, prompting disciplinary action. Comedian Laura Clery says her refrigerator nearly killed her. Her son climbed on it, causing it to shift. When she tried to push it back into place, it tipped over and pinned her against a kitchen island until firefighters rescued her. Clery says the refrigerator should have been secured to the wall and was negligently installed. A Google employee has been charged with insider trading after allegedly using confidential search data to win $1.2 million on the prediction market app Polymarket. He allegedly placed $2.7 million in wagers on 25 outcomes using nonpublic data accessed through his job. Finally, a Nebraska dog accidentally fired a shotgun while moving around inside a pickup truck parked outside a gas station called The Short Stop. A nearby motorist was injured but survived. No charges were filed, though police reminded the public that transporting a loaded shotgun is illegal.

Today on Jared & Katie In The Morning, Lisa will discuss the case of the blind many who says he was tricked by a shady car dealer. He brought in an advertisement for a new Chevy Traverse. The lawsuit alleges that the salesman agreed to the terms of the advertisement and quoted a 6% interest rate. But Jerry Bosley alleges the City Chevrolet of Grayslake car salesman changed the terms of the deal and slipped a $10,000.00 price increase and 11% interest rate into the final contract presented to Bosley to sign. The case involves allegations of fraud, violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud statute, and violations of the Americans With Disabilities Act. But under Illinois law consumers have a duty to inquire and cannot “blindly” sign a contract and then claim they did not know the terms. Even blind individuals have a duty to inquire under the law such as using a document reader or getting a third party to read the document to them. And you may wonder why a blind man was buying a car. It was not for him to drive, but for others to drive him around.

📰 New on the Lanier Law Group Blog: Can You Recover If You’re Slightly At Fault in North Carolina?

Many people assume they can still recover compensation after an accident—even if they were partially responsible. But in North Carolina, the law is much stricter than in most states.

Under the state’s contributory negligence rule, if an injured person is found to be even 1% at fault, they may be completely barred from recovering compensation for their injuries.

In our latest blog, we explain:
• How North Carolina’s contributory negligence law works
• Why proving fault is so critical in injury cases
• Possible exceptions that may still allow recovery
• Steps you can take to protect your claim after an accident

Understanding these rules can make a major difference in protecting your legal rights after a crash or injury.
