As Election Day approaches on August 6, we encourage everyone to take the time to learn about the candidates and the importance of maintaining a strong, fair, and independent judiciary.

During his years in the practice of law and throughout his recent time on the bench, Judge Mark Stapleton has demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and a steady judicial temperament. Those who appear before him see his commitment to treating every person with dignity and respect while faithfully applying the law. His calm demeanor, thoughtful judgment, and dedication to fairness are qualities our judicial system depends upon.

The Governor’s appointment to the Circuit Court is never a decision to take lightly. It reflects confidence that an individual possesses the experience, character, and temperament necessary to serve the people of our community.

Our four counties have been fortunate to have a tradition of exceptional judges. Judge Stapleton follows respected jurists who served this community with distinction. His immediate predecessor exemplified those same qualities, was appointed by our Governor, gave our community years of service, and now serves on the Tennessee Court of Appeals. Before that, the position was held by Judge Tom Wright, whose integrity, fairness, judicial temperament, and unwavering commitment to our community continue to leave a lasting legacy. At Collins Shelton Blair & Wright, we are proud to call Judge Wright our partner, and his example continues to inspire not only those in the legal profession but also countless members of our community, especially our youth.

On August 6, Judge Mark Stapleton is asking for your vote to continue serving as your Circuit Court Judge. If you are deciding how to vote, do your research. Speak with those who regularly work within our court system: attorneys, court personnel, and all of your currently elected Judiciary who have firsthand knowledge of the professionalism, temperament, and qualifications required to serve on the bench.

An independent judiciary depends on judges who faithfully apply the law, exercise sound judgment, and treat every person who enters the courtroom with fairness and respect.

This Memorial Day, Collins Shelton Blair & Wright honors the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day, and we remain profoundly grateful for their courage, duty, and selflessness.

We also recognize and thank all veterans and active-duty service members who continue to serve with honor.

This day carries special meaning for our firm as we proudly recognize our law partner, Tom Wright, whose family has answered the call to serve. Tom’s son, Captain Rob Wright, served as a helicopter pilot in the United States Army, and his son-in-law, Sergeant First John Junio, also served in the U.S. Army. We are deeply appreciative of their commitment, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation.

Today, we remember those who never made it home and honor the families who carry their legacy forward.

After a hard-fought jury trial, the verdict came back Not Guilty on the leading charge of attempted second-degree murder. We are incredibly proud of Hunter and Kristen for their work in this case, and proud of our entire CSBW team, as it’s truly a group effort.

When everything is on the line, preparation and precision matter. The burden of proof still stands, and the presumption of innocence remains the foundation of our justice system.

We are thankful for the professionalism of the District Attorney’s Office, the court staff in Hawkins County Criminal Court, and the law enforcement professionals involved.
