It’s National Volunteer Week and we’re highlighting some of the many attorneys who donate their time to the profession.
🌟 Lee Schuchart shares his talents with the State Bar of Wisconsin through the Criminal Law Section and its legislative subcommittee.
⚡Why do you volunteer through the State Bar?
“I enjoy working with the Criminal Law Section. We share our collective legal knowledge and experiences to help make the criminal justice system work to the best of its ability.”
💁What does your volunteer service look like?
“I work with the board and legislative subcommittee to help review potential new laws. Our subcommittee is comprised of judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys, who work together to determine the positive and negative effects of any proposed legislation.”
👀 **Why is it important to volunteer?**
“We deal with the criminal law daily. Who else has that type of experience, skill, and training? We see the good and bad of the criminal justice system, so it is important to work hard to make our system as fair and just as possible.”
🤩Share an interesting fact about yourself.
“I am proud to serve on the Jackie Nitschke Center board of directors. Substance abuse is a mental health issue that affects all our communities. Treating substance abuse with evidence-based treatment, rather than mass incarceration, is critical.”
🗣️What State Staff Are Saying
“His contributions to legislative discussions help put the government relations team, as well as the State Bar, in a strong position in the Capitol because of his willingness to take the time to meet with legislators assisting a constituent or brainstorming legislation.”
📣 Share your own volunteer efforts in the comments or give a shoutout to another legal professional.
