Why is local search so important?

Based on a report ComScore released last May, over 2 billion local searches were performed in just one month on Google. The potential to attract new customers through local search is just too large for you to ignore.

Thankfully a wonderful, FREE, site at http://getlisted.org takes all of the guess work out of it for you. Just enter your business name and zip code, and it will search all of the major local search sources for you and allow you to either claim an existing listing or create a new one. The site will also submit your listing to many of the smaller local aggregates such as online yellow pages.

They also have a lot of great resources to educate yourself on local search and why it so important. I encourage you to spend 15 minutes today to take a look and get your name out there.

If you have ever been curious about advertising on Google they just announced they are running a promotion for a free month of advertising using AdWords Express. AdWords express was launched last year as a "light" alternative to their regular AdWords program for small business owners who don't have the time or the know how to manage a full campaign.

Basically if you are a new user and sign up before the 16th of December they will match whatever you spend between now and the first of the year as a credit in January.
