Let me tell you about a word I used to struggle with. I used to struggle saying it, hearing it, or really meaning it.
It's a word Stephen (2 1/2 years old) doesn't like.
It's a word that I have to tell clients sometimes. A word sometimes I tell them to respond to others.
It's a word that I was more and more careful to use in the classroom.
The word? NO.
For some of us, it just feels like we were never allowed to say no. For others, it was a distorted interpretation of growth mindset that kept us from telling others no. Some people are afraid they won't be loved.
But... the reality is, NO, is a really GOOD word.
"No... I won't pick up your toys for you."
"No... you can't have a brand new car."
"No... we can't spend money on that."
How is NO, good? Sometimes you have to say no to good things, in order to get something better. A better home. A better ensemble blend. A better income.
You're in a good place, I know it. But maybe saying NO is how you get to a better place? Or... saying NO is how you get to the best place you can, right now.
Because, honestly, without a NO, can you even have a YES?!? 🤔
