The Justice and Education Departments jointly announced a new streamlined process for discharging Federal student loans in bankruptcy cases. It has been notoriously difficult to get relief from student loans in bankruptcy cases because of the high standard that debtors had to meet. This new process appears to reduce some of those administrative hurdles. We look forward to learning more about the process and implementing it in appropriate cases in the future.

The Biden administration announced updated guidelines that will make it easier for those struggling with their student debt to discharge it in bankruptcy.

A beta version of President Biden's student loan forgiveness application is now open. Biden's plan is to cancel up to $10,000 in debt for those earning less than $125,000 per year and up to $20,000 for those who received Pell Grants. Link below.

President Biden announced steps to tackle student loan debt today. President Biden stated borrowers who have Federal student loans and make less than $125,000 ($250,000 if married) a year are eligible for $10,000.00 in loan forgiveness. Additionally, those individuals who received Pell Grants are eligible for up to $20,000.00 in loan forgiveness. Details on how this relief can be claimed is supposed to be released in the coming weeks. Also, President Biden continued the current pause on student loan payments until December 31st.
