This past week, I opened a Bible printed in the 1600s.

The pages were delicate.
The leather worn soft with time.
The typeface a reminder of generations who turned these same pages before us.

You could feel the weight of it — not just the age, but the reverence.

This wasn’t simply an old book.
It was faith.
It was family.
It was history that had lived on a shelf, quietly, for decades.

When helping a client downsize, these are the moments that stop us.

Because we’re not just asking,
“Does this fit in the next home?”

We’re asking,
“What does this mean?”

Sometimes the answer is:
It goes to a grandchild.
Sometimes it’s:
It belongs with a collector who will protect it.
And sometimes it’s:
We sit with it for a while before deciding anything at all.

Managing personal property in a transition requires more than organization. It requires discernment. Patience. Respect. And the willingness to slow down when something sacred is placed in your hands.

Homes hold stories.

And sometimes… those stories are centuries old.
