At Tuesday's Transformative Justice docket, we graduated two of our rockstars. We are sad to kick them out of the nest, but they worked hard for their dismissals and expunctions and deserve to go out and live their best lives. We will miss these two, but they have promised to come back and visit us. And I even got flowers from one of them today. 🥹

Last week was a 5 day, 10 hour a day jury trial. Today, I began deconstructing my trial boxes and found these cute doodles my client made in her notes during trial. These doodles are the proof of nerves, not boredom. The safety of the little girl in their care meant everything to them and they have been scared for her for months.

The jury unanimously gave my clients full custody and full rights to the sweet little girl they call "Squish." Carry on, Squish. You're home.

A delayed welcome to new assistant, Jordan Jamar. Not only am I lucky to have her, but our clients have been and will be delighted when she is on the other end of the phone and helping out with their cases!

About Jordan: Jordan graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2018 and is currently working toward earning a graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Military Culture and Families. She has worked as a mental health professional in various settings for the last 9 years, previously leading Williamson County’s mobile crisis outreach team at Bluebonnet Trails Community Services, responding to those experiencing mental health crises in the community and facilitating treatment in order to ensure safety and prevent incarceration. Most recently, she worked for a county program providing case management services to youthful offenders. She has served clients of all ages and backgrounds, and uses this experience to help those in the criminal justice and CPS systems.

I love when I can mix up a hectic criminal docket day with an ADOPTION! It's weird being the adoption attorney and not the child's attorney, but I'll take it!

Special thanks to Judge Brandy Byrd Hallford and adoptions caseworker. Jessi Sternat. It was my first case with Jessi and she's the real deal. Kids on her caseload are in great hands. (And she just knew to coordinate our outfits!)

After a frustrating Friday, it was nice to wake up to a new review reminding me that it is still worth it.

She has done what all the other lawyers said couldn’t be done… I have several priors and prior pen trips against me and she got one of my felony’s dropped “the worse of the 2” ,and got me time served on the other one… Before hiring her they were offering me prison time over and over and in just a couple months she got me off without having to go back to jail.. she is amazing and I recommend anyone who feels like they’re not getting what they want in the court room to hire Jo because she’s going to get it done..

Money in exchange for legal services is always nice. But it's the unexpected tokens of appreciation from my clients that really bring me joy.

Last night, after closing a case in a very positive way, I was given a handmade ring. Such a special gift and unique way of learning about a client's hidden talent!

There are good people out there and I'm lucky to be able to help them.

Huge shout out to Skiin with the Galilean--an organization that provides free lake days for foster and special needs children. And when I say "lake day" I mean breakfast, lunch, dinner and all the wakeboarding, skiing, jet skiing, knee boarding and fun you can fit into one day!

To see the smiles on the kids' faces was incredible. But to see some kids get up on skis and wakeboards when they've never even been on a boat? I'm speechless.

Words cannot express my gratitude.
