Some good news to end the day…

Just two hours ago we received approval on an expedited request involving a client with serious medical circumstances. After days of gathering records, preparing supporting evidence, and advocating on the family’s behalf, the request was approved within just a few hours of submission.

To be honest, immigration work has felt a lot heavier lately…. The rules seem to change constantly. Cases that once moved smoothly now receive additional scrutiny. More questions, more requests for evidence, more uncertainty. Like many immigration attorneys and legal professionals across the country, there are days when we leave the office feeling tired and wondering what new challenge tomorrow will bring.

But then a moment like today happens and it reminds us that this work is not really about forms, deadlines, or case numbers… It is about people, and that the strongest cases are not always built from legal arguments alone. They are built from listening: Listening to our clients’ stories - Understanding what keeps them awake at night - Taking the time to learn why a case matters to them… and when we stop looking at a case as a file and start seeing the human being behind it, our work changes…

Today’s approval does not solve every problem. It does not make the immigration system easier. But it gives one family a little more hope, and honestly, it gives us some hope too!!!

And seriously… we are very grateful! We are grateful for a positive outcome for this family. More importantly, we are grateful for the reminder that even during difficult times, compassion, hard work, and genuine advocacy can still make a difference.

This was never just a file.

It was someone’s family… and that’s worth fighting for!

Immigration forms require disclosure of all arrests, charges, or citations — even if dismissed, minor, or long ago. Many people give incorrect answers simply because they don’t remember details or don’t realize a record exists under a different name.

👉 Common issues we see (especially with Vietnamese names):
• Citations under name variations (Anh Nguyen / Anh T. Nguyen / Nguyen Thi Anh)
• Records under maiden or prior married names
• Siblings with very similar names (same last name, same middle name, same first initial)
• Cases believed to be “just a ticket” but actually criminal citations
• Dismissed arrests that still must be disclosed
• Wrong dates or counties that don’t match court records
• Records belonging to someone with the same name

USCIS checks fingerprints and full name history — not just memory. If your answers don’t match official records, it can lead to RFEs, delays, or interview problems.

✅ Checking your record early lets you:
• Confirm every incident and name used
• Separate your record from siblings or same-name individuals
• Obtain certified court dispositions in advance
• Ensure accurate, consistent immigration answers

Bottom line: A simple criminal record review before filing turns immigration paperwork from guesswork into accurate reporting — saving time and stress for both green card and citizenship cases

Khi năm cũ dần khép lại, DLG biết ơn vì đã được đồng hành cùng nhiều gia đình trong suốt thời gian qua.

Làm di trú hay làm hoạch định tài sản, cuối cùng cũng chỉ xoay quanh một điều: gia đình. Mỗi hồ sơ là một câu chuyện, mỗi buổi ký giấy là một niềm hy vọng cho tương lai. Có những lúc vui vì tin tốt, cũng có lúc phải ngồi lại thật lâu để tính cho những điều bất ngờ của cuộc sống. Chính những khoảnh khắc đó làm chúng ta hiểu rõ hơn rằng sức khỏe, thời gian bên người thân, và sự chuẩn bị cho ngày mai quan trọng đến mức nào.

Nhiều gia đình năm nay đã bắt đầu nghĩ xa hơn — lập living trust, viết di chúc, sắp xếp lại tài sản — không phải vì lo lắng, mà vì yêu thương. Chuẩn bị trước không phải để nghĩ đến điều xấu, mà để nếu có điều gì bất ngờ xảy ra, người mình thương vẫn được bảo vệ trọn vẹn.

Tết đang đến rất gần. Đây là lúc cả nhà quây quần, nhắc nhau sống chậm lại một chút, chăm sóc sức khỏe, trân quý từng bữa cơm, từng tiếng cười. Tương lai có thể khó đoán, nhưng tình thân và sự chuẩn bị kỹ càng sẽ giúp mình vững vàng hơn.

DLG chúc mọi nhà một năm mới bình an, nhiều sức khỏe, nhiều niềm vui, và nếu có kế hoạch gì cho tương lai — thì làm với tâm thế nhẹ nhàng, lạc quan và đầy yêu thương.

As the Lunar Year winds down, we’ve been taking a moment to reflect on 2025 and the families we’ve had the privilege to serve.

It’s been a little quiet here lately because much of our time has been spent behind the scenes. With immigration policies shifting and requirements evolving, many cases have required more detailed evidence and more thoughtful conversations. We’ve been focused on guiding families carefully through uncertainty and making sure they feel informed and supported at every step.

This year brought meaningful immigration progress, family reunifications, and important estate planning conversations centered on protecting children and future generations. More than anything, it reminded us how much health and family matter.

With the Lunar New Year just a week away, we look ahead with hope for smoother journeys, positive updates, and continued progress for the families we serve.

Wishing our community good health, warmth at home, and strong family bonds as we prepare to welcome the Year of the Horse.

Our clients worry we’re too stressed… so instead of just paperwork, they bring us the best tacos from Santa Ana, most recent ginseng products from Costco, fresh fruits from Florida, fine tea straight from China, the latest snacks from Little Saigon, and even cá khô, mắm, mứt dừa, bánh tráng,.. and all kinds of “hương vị quê nhà” from Vietnam.

It’s not about the gifts — it’s the care behind them.
In this job, we handle documents and deadlines… but it’s the heart we receive back that reminds us why we do what we do. ❤️

Thank you for feeding both our stomachs and our spirit...
and sometimes… our nostalgia. 😄🙏

🌎 Hướng Dẫn Du Lịch Cho Thân Chủ Có Thẻ Xanh Theo Diện Hôn Nhân
(Cập nhật đến Tháng 9/2025)

✈️ 1. Luôn Mang Đầy Đủ Giấy Tờ

Luôn mang theo thẻ xanh (Form I-551) và hộ chiếu còn hạn khi xuất/nhập cảnh.

Kiểm tra yêu cầu visa của nước đến.

Hộ chiếu nên còn hạn ít nhất 6 tháng sau ngày kết thúc chuyến đi.

📆 2. Thời Gian Lưu Trú Ở Nước Ngoài

Dưới 6 tháng: Thường an toàn, nhưng vẫn nên chuẩn bị giấy tờ chứng minh ràng buộc với Mỹ.

Từ 6–12 tháng: Có thể bị CBP thẩm vấn về việc “từ bỏ thường trú”.

Trên 12 tháng: Thường cần Giấy Phép Tái Nhập Cảnh (Form I-131).

📝 3. Giấy Phép Tái Nhập Cảnh (Reentry Permit)

Nộp Form I-131 ít nhất 60 ngày trước chuyến đi.

Cho phép vắng mặt ở Mỹ tối đa 2 năm mà không mất tình trạng thường trú.

Phải có mặt tại Mỹ khi nộp đơn và đi lăn tay.

💍 4. Thẻ Xanh Có Điều Kiện (2 năm)

Phải nộp Form I-751 trong vòng 90 ngày trước khi thẻ hết hạn.

Nếu đi du lịch thời gian này, mang theo giấy gia hạn tình trạng + bằng chứng hôn nhân thực sự (tài khoản chung, hợp đồng thuê nhà, khai thuế…).

🏡 5. Chứng Minh Ràng Buộc Với Mỹ

Hợp đồng lao động hoặc giấy xác nhận việc làm

Bất động sản hoặc hợp đồng thuê nhà ở Mỹ

Tài khoản ngân hàng, khai thuế, hóa đơn điện nước

Địa chỉ cư trú đang hoạt động

🔎 6. Kiểm Tra Biên Giới (Border Scrutiny)

Có thể bị kiểm tra gắt gao hơn tại cửa khẩu.

Nếu có tiền án, đi vắng thường xuyên, hoặc ở ngoài lâu, nên tham khảo luật sư di trú trước khi đi.

Viên chức biên giới có thể kiểm tra điện thoại/laptop. Lưu ý:

Tắt Face ID/vân tay.

Xóa nội dung nhạy cảm.

Dùng thiết bị riêng cho chuyến đi.

🛂 7. Vắng Mặt Trên 2 Năm

Nếu ở ngoài Mỹ hơn 2 năm mà không có Reentry Permit hợp lệ, có thể phải xin Visa Định Cư Trở Lại (SB-1 Returning Resident Visa) tại Lãnh Sự Quán Mỹ.

💡 8. Một Số Lời Khuyên Khác

Mang theo bản sao hộ chiếu, thẻ xanh, và reentry permit (cất riêng).

Xem xét đăng ký Global Entry để nhập cảnh nhanh hơn.

Nên mua bảo hiểm du lịch phòng trường hợp khẩn cấp.

Travel Guidance for Marriage-Based Green Card Holders
(As of September 2025)

1. Always Keep Your Documents Current
• Carry your green card (Form I-551) and a valid passport whenever traveling abroad and returning to the U.S.
• Check your destination country’s visa requirements and make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.

2. Duration of Your Trips
• Trips under 6 months: Generally safe, but you should still be ready to show strong ties to the U.S.
• Trips 6–12 months: May trigger CBP questioning about abandoning residency.
• Trips over 12 months: You typically need a reentry permit (Form I-131).

3. Reentry Permits
• File Form I-131 (Application for Travel Document) at least 60 days before travel.
• Allows absences of up to 2 years without losing status.
• You must be physically present in the U.S. to file and complete biometrics.

4. Conditional Green Card Holders
• If you hold a 2-year conditional green card, file Form I-751 within 90 days before expiration.
• If traveling during this period, carry your receipt notice extending status plus evidence of ongoing marriage (e.g., joint bank accounts, lease, or tax returns).

5. Demonstrating U.S. Ties
• Employment records or job letters
• U.S. property ownership or lease agreements
• U.S. bank accounts, tax filings, and utility bills
• Active mailing address

6. Border Scrutiny
• Expect increased inspections at ports of entry.
• If you have criminal history, frequent absences, or long stays abroad, consult an immigration attorney before traveling.
• Border officials may search phones and laptops. Consider:
- Disabling biometric access (Face ID, fingerprint).
- Removing sensitive or political content.
- Traveling with a device used solely for the trip.

7. Absences Over 2 Years
If you remain outside the U.S. for more than 2 years without a valid reentry permit, you may need to apply for an SB-1 Returning Resident Visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate.

8. Additional Best Practices
• Carry photocopies of your passport, green card, and reentry permit; store extras separately.
• Consider Global Entry enrollment for faster processing.
• Obtain travel insurance for emergencies or delays.
