The right to remain silent. Everyone has it too; few choose to exercise it.

Keep in mind that during a traffic stop the microphones on the dash cams are impressive. They can pick up the conversations of persons in the stopped vehicle while the officer runs their information in their own car.

I was in a car accident yesterday, so here is a to do list in the event you are in an accident.

1. Check yourself & your passengers for injuries. If you are injured stay where you are unless there is further danger to your safety.

2. Call 911

Do the following only if you are uninjured and able

3. Check on occupants of other vehicles if any.

4. Gather you drivers license & insurance information.

5. Take pictures of: your injuries (bruises, cuts, etc.), damage to your vehicle, damage to other vehicles, the surrounding accident scene, tire/skid marks.

6. Try to identify any witnesses.

7. Be polite with emergency workers. If you do not need or want to go to the hospital, do not say you are fine or uninjured. Symptoms of injuries may not appear for a couple of hours or the next day.

8. Make notes as to what you remember to have caused the accident.

9. Begin your insurance claim.
